About the Game
In Dominion: Intrigue (as with Dominion), each player starts with an identical, very small deck of cards. In the center of the table is a selection of other cards the players can "buy" as they can afford them. Dominion: Intrigue
Dominion: Intrigue was one of my earliest board game addictions and it still holds up wonderfully today. I love how this expansion (which can also be a standalone set) doubles the variety of the base game without adding confusing rules. The theme of intrigue really comes through with cards that give me devious choices. Sometimes I’m deciding whether to draw cards, earn coins, or trash junk from my deck – and those decisions make each turn more engaging. Intrigue also ramps up the player interaction: even some non-attack cards feel sneaky and underhanded, which leads to a lot more table talk and laughter (or groans from friends as I play the dreaded Torturer!). What I appreciate is that new players can jump into Intrigue without needing a big rules explanation – it’s basically more Dominion goodness. The downside is a double-edged sword: with so many cards offering choices, it can slow the game a bit if someone overthinks every option. And if you try playing with 5-6 people just because you can, be prepared for some downtime. Still, the added depth and interaction make Dominion a richer experience for me. (I even consulted an AI to help compile other players’ opinions, and it seems many share my love for Intrigue.)
